A-B's Interim Principal Opens Up to 'The Spectrum'

Acton-Boxborough Regional High School's official newspaper recently posted an interview with A-B's Interim Principal JoAnn Campbell.

She’s a dog person who hates heights, loves the color “Ocean” and spends most of her free time with her 20-month-old son.

Those are among the details JoAnn Campbell, the interim principal at Acton-Boxborough Regional High School, shared in a recent interview with The Spectrum, her school’s official newspaper.

The Q-and-A also included interesting tidbits on Campbell’s own high school experiences and how she views the role of a principal at a time when external requirements influence even high-performing public schools.

An excerpt:

[The Spectrum] In the June issue of The Spectrum, Dr. Callen talked about how she thought the role of a principal was shifting from being visionary to being a middleman. Do you feel that way also?

[Campbell] Oh, absolutely. I 100% agree with her. It has become more and more difficult for principals to really have a vision for their schools and to help carry that vision forward because there are so many external mandates and requirements that are imposed on schools. So we spend a lot of our time sorting through those mandates and figuring out how to implement them all, versus spending our time thinking about and working towards a common vision for our schools.
