Acton Figure Skater's a National Champion

Iris Zhao, a pre-teen figure skating phenom from Acton, took first place in the Juvenile Girls division at the U.S Figure Skating Championships in Boston.

She went. She saw. She conquered. 

Iris Zhao, a pre-teen figure skating phenom from Acton, competed against the nation's best at the U.S Figure Skating Championships in Boston. And she won. 

With a score of 56.36, Iris took first place in the Juvenile Girls Free Skate competition. And now she's a National Champion.

Iris trains at the  Colonial Figure Skating Club in Boxborough, where Acton Patch caught up with her during a training session this past fall as she prepared for the competition season.

A middle-schooler here in Acton, Iris's National Championship capped off an impressive run which included a second-place finish at New England Regionals and a fourth-place finish at Eastern Sectionals.
