Visiting Acton-Boxboro hung close against host Chelmsford on Thursday night in boys hockey action, but eventually the host Lions proved too much for the Colonials.

Acton-Boxboro knotted the score at 1-1 after Chelmsford took the early lead in the opening period.

But the Lions went back ahead, 2-1, in the middle period and took that edge into the final frame. That's when Chelmsford took over, scoring a pair of goals and skating to a 4-1 win.

With the loss, AB dropped to 7-4-4 on the season. The team has a 5-2-3 record in the Merrimack Valley/Dual County League, good for third place behind Chelmsford and first place Central Catholic.

The locals next travel to Waltham on Saturday for a road tilt scheduled for 8 p.m.
