On the 11th anniversary of Sept. 11, it's important to not only remember and mourn those we lost in the horrific terrorist attacks on the United States but to also remember those who have came together to help us all respectfully mourn those we lost.
Many local citizens volunteered their great efforts to organize and come together to construct a 911 memorial here in Acton. Last year, the 10th anniversary of the attacks, we unveiled a new memorial in front of the public safety facility. Acton is unique like few other towns across the U.S. who have lost people in our community on Sept. 11, 2001. Two Acton families were directly affected by the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks when died on American Airlines Flight 11. Here is a look back at those who selflessly came together to bring a memorial to our town.
Tom Matthews (Acton firefighter), Jon Stackhouse (Acton police officer), Eva Szkaradek (Acton town clerk) and have managed to execute a big idea for a small town. The team obtained a piece of steel from ground zero and made it the heart of the memorial; the other parts reflect all the other tragic events that took place that day. Local Businesses volunteered their expertise to the memorial project such as , , , , and .
