Community Corner

HGRM Open House and Volunteer Orientation

Have you been thinking about getting more involved in your community? Are you looking to meet new people? Would you like to help families in need? Please join HGRM (Household Goods Recycling of Massachusetts) on Saturday September 15th from 8:00 - 9:00 am or Wednesday September 19th from 1:00 – 2:00 pm for an Open House and Volunteer Orientation.

HGRM is a non-profit organization located at 530 Main Street in Acton. The organization helps individuals and families in need by collecting gently used furniture and household goods and supplying them free of charge through the use of volunteers and in cooperation with community agencies and organizations. Our clients come from towns across eastern Massachusetts including Lowell, Acton, Framingham, Boston, Worcester, Fitchburg, and Marlboro. They come to HGRM in times of crisis or transition. They may be fleeing from domestic violence, recovering from addiction, establishing a home after being homeless, re-entering the community after incarceration, victims of natural disasters or refugees. Come and learn more about HGRM and the many volunteer opportunities available.

Here is how people describe why they volunteer at HGRM:

“I want to give back to others and support causes I believe in (namely recycling and helping others in need).  I love the concept.  I thoroughly enjoy being around others who volunteer at HGRM - they are wonderful people - and I enjoy meeting and helping the clients HGRM serves.”

“The volunteers are friendly, respectful and caring.  I am the beneficiary of years of work now put into a well oiled process. I'm saving all these things from the trash… Meeting the clients is a reminder of the things that I often take for granted.”

“It's a wonderful organization with lots of caring and dedicated volunteers (and staff) where everyone "wins" - the people who donate, the clients who receive, and the volunteers who help facilitate the process.”

Whether you want to spend an hour a month or a day a week, we invite you to join our team.  The people who volunteer at HGRM come from Acton, Concord, Boxboro, Lincoln, Sudbury, as well as other area towns. They are all friendly and of all ages, from teenagers to seniors. We would enjoy meeting you and having you meet us.
