1. Acton-Boxborough Colonials Challenge Central Catholic 
Where/When: Lawrence Veterans Memorial Stadium, 240 Osgood St., Lawrence, Mass; 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 8 
Why Go: 
Because it's football! And the third-ranked Colonials of Acton-Boxborough Regional High School are taking on No. 2 Central Catholic in the semi-finals of the MIAA North Division 1 Playoffs

2. Magic and Pet Videos at Second Saturdays
Where/When: South Acton Congregational Church, 35 School St., Acton; 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 9 
Why Go: 
Because Bonaparte the musician will perform. And who doesn't love pet videos? 
Pricing: $9 per person or $16 for a family 

3. Walk & Wag for Veterans
Where/When: Great Brook Farm State Park, 984 Lowell St, Carlisle; 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 9 
Why Go: 
Because by walking the scenic-route through one of the area’s most beautiful parks you can also raise money for Operation Delta Dog, a nonprofit dedicated to training service dogs—all of which are rescued from shelters—for local veterans. Get the details here.

4. Thanksgiving Plate Workshop
Where/When: Barefoot Books, 89 Thoreau St., Concord; 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 9
Why Go: 
Because, in this workshop, children will have a chance to create their own plate just in time to use it at the Thanksgiving table.

5. Veterans Day Breakfast
Where/When: Holiday Inn,  242 Adams Place, Boxborough; 8:30 a.m., Monday, Nov. 11 
Why Go: 
The National Honor Society of Acton-Boxborough Regional High School, along with the Rotary Club of Acton-Boxborough, will celebrate local veterans and their service to our country. Get the details here.
