1. Winter Wishes
Where/When: Children's Discovery Museum, 177 Main St., Acton; 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 21
Why Go: To decorate a paper ornament with hopes and wishes for the approaching New Year, which will be added to the Discovery Museums' Wishing Woods.

2. Concord Women's Chorus Holiday Concert - "Winter's Promise"
Where/When: Trinity Episcopal Church, 81 Elm St. Concord; 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 21
Why Go: Because "this joyous concert of seasonal works will feature a rare 18th century chamber work by composer Baldassare Galuppi" and concludes with an audience carol sing-a-long.
Pricing: $25 for adults, $20 for students and seniors, and $5 for children 12 and under.
3. Winter Solstice with Emerson Umbrella
Where/When: Old Manse, 269 Monument St, Concord; 6 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 6
Why Go: To join with the folks from Musketaquid in celebrating the Winter Solstice with a sing-along with Voices for the Earth, luminaria and light refreshments.
Pricing: Free
4. Amahl and the Night Visitors
Where/When: The Performing Arts Center at 51 Walden; 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 22
Why Go: To see Menotti's "heartwarming" opera, conducted by Alan Yost and featuring soloists Julia Shneyderman, Robin Farnsley, Ray Bauwens, Brad Amidon, Thomas Dawkins and Michael Prichard.
Pricing: $20 adults/$10 students
