LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Experience Gives Katie Green the Edge

Resident Miriam Lezak explains her support for Green for Board of Selectmen.

I am writing to urge my fellow Acton residents to vote for Katie Green for Selectman on March 26. Katie brings broad experience from working for one of Acton’s state representatives and from her volunteer involvement with the League of Woman Voters.   I am delighted to see someone with Katie's commitment to our town and knowledge of the workings of government as a candidate for Selectman. Katie’s years of working with Representative Benson have given her a thorough understanding of Acton’s needs and goals. With the current uncertainty with federal and state budgets, I believe Katie’s experience working in state government makes her very well suited to help keep Acton moving forward.  Please join me in electing Katie as a fresh new voice …

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Margaret Busse for Selectman

Resident Calvin Winroth says the challenger has the leadership skills needed for Acton's board.

Margaret Busse has my vote for her candidacy as a Selectman of Acton because of her good character and her desire to help maintain Acton as a decent place to live. My wife, Mary Lou, and I have been citizens of Acton for more than 45 years. Our three children received a good education in the Acton Public School system and grew up in a good safe neighborhood. Much of our positive feelings for this town have come from the dedicated service of many good town citizens who, over the years, have been willing to step up to the plate. They have given generously of their time and talents to this town as elected officials in our town government. This tradition of electing town members who are willing to serve on the Acton Board of Selectmen is once …

Well said. I will also be voting for Margaret Busse. Her many dedicated hours to our town planning has spearheaded much needed growth in our infrastructure. Her intelligence, business educational background and ability as a leader to converge citizens ideas and inspirations for improving this town into a forward looking plan qualify her for this role. The 20/20 committee has generated the …   more ›

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Busse Deserves the Chance to Lead Acton

Residents Jeff and Alyson Whatcott say they are voting for Margaret Busse for selectman.

The rarest commodity in government is visionary leadership. Margaret Busse is a true visionary leader.  We should consider ourselves very fortunate that such a capable, caring, and trustworthy person is willing to serve as our Selectman, and we hope that you will join us in voting for her in the upcoming election. We have enjoyed raising our four children in Acton over the past thirteen years.  Our family has benefited greatly from our town’s commitment to first-rate public education.  We sincerely hope that the future will be as bright as the recent past, but this future far from assured. Despite our love for Acton, it has not always been clear to us that our leaders really have a vision for where the town is headed.  Without a clear …

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Don't Ignore Acton's Water Quality

Paul Malchodi is a candidate for Water District Commissioner.

Our Water District Commissioner’s seat election and Water District Annual meeting matter this year more than at any recent time. We are at the very start of spending over $40 Million in added new spending over the next 30 years to treat water that comes from the same sources we have been using for the last 30.  Article 16 on this year’s Acton Water District annual meeting warrant will fund the engineering for the $12 Million South Acton Water Treatment Plant (SATP). This plant, another future treatment plant for West Acton, and the operation of our all 3 water treatment plants will make our water permanently and substantially more expensive.  In and of itself, this would be OK if it provided substantially improved water safety. …

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: We Support Busse for Selectman

Half a dozen residents write in to pen their support for Margaret Busse.

We are writing in support of Margaret Woolley Busse's campaign for town selectman.   It merely takes a cursory review of Margaret's impressive credentials to understand clearly what an asset to Acton she would be. Her business acumen, Ivy League credentials and her experience leading Acton 2020 and on the Planning Board speak for themselves.   Margaret knows intimately the issues in Acton and has both the vision and organizational capacity to bring them forward. What isn't as clearly evident on her resume is the fact that Margaret is a woman of immense integrity and personal character.   Margaret does what she says she is going to do and she executes any task she assumes with unbridled excellence and precision. Her word matters and can be …

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: I'm Supporting Janet Adachi for Selectman

Current Acton Selectman Mike Gowing says the incumbent has done well during her first term.

I urge you to re-elect Janet Adachi to another term as Selectman. I have served with Janet for the past three years and have found her to be thoughtful, creative and detail oriented. She has worked diligently through several controversial and difficult problems in her first term with excellent results. She is fiscally prudent but has an eye toward social justice, understanding that it is society’s burden to assist those in need of a helping hand. Having served on the Conservation Commission prior to being elected to the Select board, she has always been an advocate for open space and clean water. Her background as an attorney gives her excellent grounding in dealing with state law and its impact on the town. Finally, she has proven herself…

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Busse's Leadership is What Acton Needs

Resident Paul Murphy says Margaret Busse is the right choice for selectman.

I have known Margaret Busse for many years now and I am very pleased to see that she is running for a seat on the Board of Selectmen. She possesses important qualities of character and skill that I believe are prerequisite to that position.   While observing the progress of the Acton 2020 Group, I have seen her leadership in action in formulating a vision for a vibrant future for Acton.  It comes as no surprise to me that she is also a member of the planning board.     So in addition to having the vision to set goals, she has the resolve to do the hard work that is necessary to plan and execute the steps that are needed to make those goals a reality. Margaret also brings the unique quality of having children that are, or soon will be, in …

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: My Vote is For Margaret Busse

Resident Ryan Bettez shares his support for Board of Selectmen.

I want to encourage you to vote for Margaret Busse for Selectman.  I have had the pleasure to serve with Margaret on the planning board for the past few years.  She has proven herself to be a valuable, thoughtful, and hardworking member of the planning board.  What I have most enjoyed about her service to the town is her eagerness to find resolutions to conflicts that are agreeable to both the residents and the town. She always seeks solutions that are beneficial to all of the stakeholders involved in a particular issue.  The Town of Acton is lucky to have someone with her impressive background stepping up to serve. Margaret is the right person to lead Acton through these uncertain economic times she will seek to find the proper balance of…

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Vote Romaniak for Selectman

Resident Dave Lunger says he's supporting Eric Romaniak this election.

Some excellent choices for the two Acton Selectman slots to consider for this upcoming election. Eric Romaniak is a bright and energetic young man, gearing up to start a family and dig long-term roots in his and our town. He is representative of young Actonians who besides growing up in this town (or in his case, a neighbor town), would like to live, prosper and be closer to their parents instead of being economically forced to live anywhere but Acton. It is a viewpoint that would add greatly to the makeup and varied complementary opinions of our Board of Selectman. I strongly urge you to consider Eric for one of your votes on March 26.
