Guiding Growth to Acton's Town Centers [VIDEO]

The committee tasked with developing a plan for Acton's future presented a brief overview of their Master Plan last week.

Tuesday, March 6, the Acton 2020 Committee presented their Master Plan to a packed crowd of nearly 100 residents in the Faulkner Room of the Town Hall – most of whom were newcomers to the project. This was a good practice run for the 2020 committee, as they are to present their seven goals and objectives at Town Meeting, April 2, to be voted on for implementation. The committee outlined their aim to guide residential and commercial growth to existing Town centers, like Kelly’s Corner and the West Acton. They also stressed the importance of protecting existing open space, purchasing potential open space, and focusing on building smaller housing developments. The Acton 2020 Committee, comprised of a group of local citizens tasked with developing a 20-year plan for a prosperous Acton, will present their master plan at Town Meeting on April 2. The committee has been reaching out to various town Boards and has held interactive workshops, gathering feedback on what the community would like to see Acton become. VIDEO: A Brief History of Theatre III

On Monday, June 6, members from the community gathered at Theatre III to watch the premiere of “It’s A Wonderful Acton,” a short film about getting Actonians excited about participating in Acton 2020’s mission to plan for the future of the town. Acton Patch will host the film on the site over the weekend.

Announcement: Acton 2020 Has Film Premier Approaching

This is a press release from the local organization Acton 2020, responsible for bringing the community together to plan a better future for the town.

The Town of Acton, in collaboration with the Acton 2020 committee, has commissioned a professionally-produced short film, “It’s a Wonderful Acton”, to further inspire its citizens to become involved in the planning and future of their town. The world premier film screening will occur Monday, June 6, 2011, hosted by Acton’s historic Theatre III located at 250 Central Street in West Acton. This event is free to the public – all are welcome! This entertaining program will run continuously from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Selectmen Candidate Terra Friedrichs on an Acton “Burning Issue”

How Terra Friedrichs feels about local shopping and businesses.

The Acton 2020 Committee, in charge of overseeing the next Comprehensive Community Plan for Acton, has recently created a community blog that they have dubbed, “Burning Issues.” Here, they have raised some basic local issues to encourage concerns from community members to interact with one another in an online forum to better gage an Actonian's point of view. In spirit of the coming town elections (Tuesday, March 29), Acton Patch chose one “Burning Issue” and asked all three candidates running for Selectmen, which has two open seats, where they stand on the matter.
