Spring sports at Acton-Boxborough Regional High School are set to begin with many teams looking to build on their success in 2012. Around Acton, youth sports are also underway and we want to help share all the great moments and highlights from this spring with the community. We are looking for athletes, coaches, parents, booster club members and fans who are ready, willing and able to show their team spirit on Acton Patch. Acton-Boxborough Head Coach Ejected in Lacrosse Loss to the Ghosts

Acton-Boxborough may have thought they had it in the bag but the Grey Ghosts showed and gave them a game ...

Acton-Boxborough/Westford Academy games are always hotly contested, but things got a little too hot under the collar in Westford on Thursday as the Grey Ghosts defeated the Colonials 17-10 in a contest that had 19 penalties between the two teams. Westford gave up a technical foul from a push in the second quarter and two sportsmanship fouls in the third quarter. However, their infractions were overshadowed by two unnecessary roughness calls and an unsportsmanslike penalty by Acton-Boxborough in the first half and two more unsportsmanshlike calls, culminating in a technical foul in the fourth that removed Acton-Boxborough head coach Pat Amendolia from the contest. Lady Colonials Crush Weston Wildcats

The final score was 63-30, Acton-Boxborough.

A youthful squad against a full-court press proved to be a disastrous combination for the Weston High girls' basketball team as the Wildcats were flattened 63-30 by Acton-Boxborough Tuesday night. “The effort is always there with these girls,” said Weston coach Mark Madden. “It’s a matter of us executing, especially against the press. That’s where we are kind of struggling right now is against people’s presses. We need to keep our eyes up a little bit more.” He added, “We are a young team with one senior, four juniors, three sophomores, and three freshmen. So we are playing a lot of underclassmen who are playing their first varsity experience. You can see them progressing as the season goes on. Now, we’re just waiting for it to all click. …

Acton-Boxborough Sports Recap: Strong Start All Around for the Colonials

Acton-Boxborough sports begin with a full slate of games this week.

A-B sports teams begin winter season with wins UNH bound senior Elizabeth Belanger scored 36 points and pulled down 19 rebounds in a 61-51 win over Dual County League Large opponent Newton South last Friday. The A-B girls hockey team also started strong out of the gate as they shutout Fontbonne 9-0 on Saturday. The boys swim and dive team also won their first match of the winter sports season as they defeated Bedford High School 81-65 on Saturday. A-B games of the week A-B winter sports ramp up their schedule this week with all the varsity teams seeing action of the 2011 winter sports season. Sports Recap: Acton-Boxborough Football Announces Post-Season Awards

Foley starts strong for Tufts, A-B sports continue scrimmages and the Bruins alumni is coming in January.

A-B Football announces post-season recognition Five seniors and one junior were named Dual County League All-Stars by the Dual County Large coaches: Mike Duggan, (linebacker) was named Dual County League Defensive Player of the Year; junior Billy Jackman (defensive back); Jake Pilecki (defensive line); Brooks Poulin (defensive line); Kyle Sweeney (running back); and Peter Trombly (linebacker). Assistant Head Coach, Ray Gallant, presented senior running back, Kyle Sweeney, with the 2011 AB Colonials Most Valuable player award.  Sweeney racked up more than 1300 yards and 16 touchdowns this season. Sports Recap: Acton-Boxborough Football Bounces Back Big

Girls field hockey begins tournament play this Thursday and A-B football takes on DCL Large rival and undefeated Lincoln-Sudbury this Friday.

A-B Bounces Back Strong Acton-Boxborough (5-3) bounced back this Friday from their loss to Concord-Carlisle last weekend by defeating Waltham 34-7 in DCL Large league play. After a balanced first quarter that saw each team score one touchdown A-B ran off 27 straight points on their way to their fifth win of the season. A-B spread their offense around with four different offensive players scoring touchdowns (three rushing, one passing) on the evening. The A-B defense was also up to the task as they shutout Waltham for the remaining three quarters of the game after the initial first quarter score. A-B (5-3) will face their most important game to date this Friday when they take on the undefeated Lincoln-Sudbury Warriors (8-0) at Leary field …

Sports Recap: Acton-Boxborough Football Runs Down Boston Latin

A-B football takes aim at Concord-Carlisle this Friday

A-B runs down Boston Latin The Acton-Boxborough Colonials football team improved to 4-2 on the season as they defeated Boston Latin 28-8 on a rainy Friday night. The Colonials received a balanced running attack and strong line play that featured touchdown runs by Brooks Pouilin, Kyle Sweeney, Matt Brogie, and Peter Connell. The Colonials return to action this Friday night when they travel to Concord-Carlisle to face the rival Patriots. The Patriots are 6-0 and are off to their best start in recent years. They defeated Westford Academy 61-14 on Friday night. Sports Recap: Acton-Boxborough Field Hockey Remains Undefeated

A-B football travels to Marshfield on Saturday and the remainder of the A-B varsity weekly schedule.

Field Hockey remains undefeated on the season The A-B girls field hockey team defeated Waltham 3-0 on Saturday to  their improve their overall record to 4-0-2 (3-0-1 in the DCL Large). Sophomore Eleana Cardarelli, senior Kyra Beaudoin, and freshman Leah Cardarelli all scored in goals in the win. A-B looks to remain undefeated as they host fellow DCL opponent Concord-Carlisle on Tuesday. Game time is scheduled for 3:45 at Leary field. Football pitches a shutout and faces Marshfield Saturday A-B (2-1) shut out Lexington (0-3) 28-0 on Friday night. Hannah Rosenblatt is only a freshman, but she is certainly playing like a seasoned veteran. The striker netted all of her team’s goals Thursday afternoon helping lead the Lincoln-Sudbury girls soccer squad to a 2-0 victory over Dual County League-foe Acton-Boxborough.   “I’m really pleased with how she has progressed,” said Warriors head coach Kate Berry. “We knew she was a skilled player who had a lot of potential. And I feel as though every day in practice and every game day, she’s been that much better. I feel as if she’s a player who is starting to settle down and get comfortable with the girls she is playing with.” With the victory, L-S remains undefeated at 5-0.
