Local Athlete Plays Key Role in Bay State Games Ice Hockey Gold Medal Win

Acton’s own Aaron Witty scored the winning goal in a shootout that gave Northeast the edge over Metro on Sunday night in Marlborough.

This past June, ABRHS boys varsity hockey coach Bob Lavin emailed players on his team about opportunities to compete over the summer. Rising senior Aaron Witty decided to try out for the regional Bay State Games team that Lavin mentioned. “I thought it would be fun,” Aaron said. Little did he know then, but all eyes would be on Aaron in the last seconds of the final game. With gold medals on the line, Aaron and the rest of the Northeast squad played to a 4-4 tie in a rematch against their Metro counterparts.  he game went into overtime when the clock ran out. Win Some, Lose Some: Round Up of High School Competition Results

A number of ABRHS teams and clubs have been competing against their peers from other schools and emerging victorious. Read on for the latest news from the MIAA tournaments, METG Festival, and more.

ABRHS Principal Dr. Alixe Callen could use a clone about now. Despite being out six of seven evenings last week, she wasn’t able to witness all the athletic match-ups and competitions on her calendar. In an email to parents this past Monday, Callen called her students’ success “unbelievable” and explained why it was just too much to ask her overscheduled staff to provide bus transportation and supervision to students who want to see their peers compete at out-of-town locations. “I do hope that families will consider attending together,” she wrote.
