Conference to feature variety of workshops to keep seniors active and informed.

Earlier this week he received the “Big Cookie” award at the annual Homes for Families Advocacy Day at the State House for his efforts to increase funding for supportive housing and end restrictions placed on access to shelter for homeless families across Massachusetts. “I was deeply humbled to receive this special recognition at the Homes for Families Advocacy Day and take immense pride in continuing to fight for greater access to permanent housing and better services to reduce homelessness,” Eldridge said in a release. Movement is to announce constitutional amendments overturning Citizens United.
A joint effort by State Sen. Jamie Eldridge (D-Acton) and U.S. Rep. Jim McGovern to overturn the Supreme Court’s decision in the Citizens United case and call for an end to corporate political spending took place on Thursday in Boston and Worcester. Legislation spurred on by the death of a Hudson dog named Phantom would protect animals in abandoned buildings.
A Marlborough resident's efforts to find justice for a lab that died after being abandoned in a foreclosed property have culminated with the filing of a bill to protect animals in similar situations. "This is the bill that I want. I have been praying for this bill for two years and I am very, very happy ... I want this law passed. I don’t want this to happen to any other dogs," said Lyn Gorka, a local real estate agent and animal rights advocate, who had spoken out for such a bill after being moved by the story of the 2 year-old Phantom that died after being abandoned in a foreclosed apartment. I want to thank all of the residents who attended any one of the four Town Hall meetings that I held over the past month, after my re-election in November. I was pleased with the concerns expressed by my constituents, as well as the positive discussions that were generated out of these conversations. The Town Hall meetings were held in Ayer, Westborough, Marlborough, and Acton, to ensure that residents from each geographical area of the fourteen communities of the Middlesex and Worcester District had the opportunity to attend a meeting and express their opinions on legislative and budgetary concerns. It’s the beginning of a new year, a time for reflecting on the previous year. This year, we don't have to look too far back to recognize one of the year’s pivotal struggles to protect children’s health. In fact, it reached its climax on New Year’s Eve in the mostly empty halls of our legislature. A weak bill that would have accomplished little itself and prevented future efforts to reduce our exposure to toxic mercury was stalled, thanks to the leadership of some very committed legislators including Senators Jamie Eldridge and Sonia Chang-Diaz and Representatives Ellen Story and Frank Smizik.
