Acton Woman Survives Japanese Earthquake and Tsunami, Makes Contact with Mother

Acton's Caitlin Churchill was right 'in the thick of it' when the Japanese tsunami hit a week ago today -- and she managed to survive. She did it, said her mother, by running and spending the night in the woods. Many of the rest of the people who lived in the village of Minamisanriku where Churchill has been teaching English to Japanese students may not be so fortunate. According to Wikipedia, the village of about 19,000 is still missing an estimated 9,500 people -- about half the population.
