Author of 'Labor Day,' Joyce Maynard, will be at Willow Books tonight for a book signing.
If you have no idea that Kate Winslet, Josh Brolin and director, Jason Reitman, have been filming scenes for the major motion picture, "Labor Day," in Acton this summer, then you've been living under a rock. The crew recently wrapped up shooting on Piper Road and at the Acton Senior Center, but the excitement goes on. Author, Joyce Maynard, of the 2009 book, "Labor Day," which the film is based on, will be in Acton at Willow Books at 6:30 p.m. Maynard will read from her book, sign copies and talk about her small role in the Reitman film.

Local seniors picked to be extras in Jason Reitman's film, 'Labor Day,' talk about their excitement to be a part of a major motion picture.
The cast and crew of Jason Reitman's "Labor Day," were at the Acton Senior Center last Thursday, July 19, to film a short scene where Kate Winslet's character is teaching a dance class. Twelve local seniors were picked by the production crew to be extras in the scene.

The Acton Senior Center is temporarily closed today due to a major motion picture film shoot.
The cast and crew of Jason Reitman's "Labor Day," will be filming at the Acton Senior Center today. Kate Winslet's character is teaching a dance class and the production crew thought the Acton Senior Center was a perfect setting for the scene. The set will be closed off to the public. Police will guard the entrance up the hill to the Senior Center. Audubon Drive will not be closed, only the hill leading up to the Senior Center. Council on Aging Director, Sharon Mercurio, said twelve Acton Senior Center patrons were chosen by the production crew to be extras in the scene. One Hollywood production crew opted not to film in Sudbury this spring, but another is planning to be in town today. Sudbury Patch has learned a crew will be in Sudbury to film scenes for the upcoming movie "Labor Day," starring Josh Brolin and Academy Award-winning actress Kate Winslet. According to Mary McCormack, administrative assistant to the Sudbury Board of Selectmen, a brief scene will be filmed at First Parish of Sudbury, Unitarian Universalist, some time between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. "There's going to be a stand-in for Brolin when (his character) was a younger person," McCormack said. Kate Winslet + Josh Brolin + Tobey Maguire + James Van Der Beek + Jason Reitman = The major motion picture filming in Acton, "Labor Day."
Actor Tobey Maguire is said to have recently joined the cast for Jason Reitman's film, "Labor Day." Though it is not clear if Maguire will be in Acton filming any scenes. Maguire will play the role of the narrator – the adult version of the boy in the film, which is based on the novel "Labor Day" by Joyce Maynard. Filming is currently taking place in Acton.

Here's what I've come to find talking with a few locals.
It's tough to get much information about the particulars of why Acton was picked for much of the filming of Jason Reitman's movie, LABOR DAY, staring Kate Winslet, Josh Brolin, and James Van Der Beek. Well, we know they picked a home on Piper Road – we know they will be filming at the Acton Senior Center, and we know they set up camp on Discovery Way. Why did they pick Acton?
