Moms Talk: Santa’s Big Plan For Getting Rid Of The ‘Gimmes’

Using the “rule of three” to limit holiday excess.

Between the advent calendar treats, the stocking stuffers, the grandparent booty, the assorted neighborhood and friend gift exchanges and the obscene load of swag Santa has taken to dumping under our tree, Christmas is out of control at our house. That’s why my boys will each receive just three presents from Santa this year. Perhaps you’re saying to yourself, “Just? Three is a lot, you revolting first-world consumer-whore.” And yes: It is a lot, when you consider that there are plenty of children in the world who will get nothing. And when you consider that my children DO NOT NEED ANYTHING. But I’m ashamed to say that my boys are accustomed to receiving two or twelve more gifts than three from the bearded big guy. Santa Rides Through Acton Sunday for a Good Cause

Keep and eye out for Santa in your neighborhood tomorrow morning. He'll be on an vintage 1936 REO fire truck checking the kid's Christmas lists and collecting canned goods for the Acton Food Pantry.

Santa Claus will be riding with Acton's first responders tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. With the help from the Acton Fire Department, Santa will be riding through the many neighborhoods of Acton and checking your kids wish list. He will also be collecting nonperishable food items for the Acton Food Pantry. If for some reason your child is unable to meet Santa outside, call the Acton Fire Department at 978-264-9648 to arrange a special visit from Santa at your home. Here is the list of neighborhoods Santa will visit:
