Frugal Family: Father's Day Edition

Last month, I made some recommendations for Mother’s Day gifts. It seems only fitting to give equal time to Father’s Day, which is fast approaching on June 19th. Dads need spoiling, too.

If I were to take the advice of retailers flooding my inbox, I’d be ordering clothing or gadgets for my husband, Ken, for Father’s Day. Mens’ Wearhouse boasts On vacation, at the beach or grilling up some burgers in the backyard—Dad will look great in our Pronto Blue shorts!   Amazon’s Father’s Day email includes suggestions for “Yardman Dads,” “Patio Dads,” “Chef Dads,” and “Dads Who Have it All.” The featured gifts include a  Fiskars Uproot Lawn and Garden Weeder, a turkey fryer, a set of salt and pepper grinders, an oyster knife set, and a metal detector, to name  a few. It appears as though sometimes, men and women can be from the same planet! The feedback you got, was very much the same as what i requested for mother's day. I think what you value most as you grow older changes significantly. Here are this weekend’s picks for students and families looking for local entertainment.

Danny’s Place Youth Center Events, Merriam Administration Building, 14 Charter Road, Acton Friday, March 25, 6:00-9:00 p.m. Acoustic Night Fundraiser (7th-12th graders) Local teenaged musicians will be headlining Friday night’s fundraiser benefiting Danny’s Place.  Junior high and high school students are invited to experience the evening’s display of upbeat, rousing performances. Danny’s Place members are admitted free of charge; non-members pay $5. Refreshments will be available for purchase.
