Morning Snowfall Causes Three Accidents in Acton

Schools decide to open despite slippery road conditions.

Despite a winter weather advisory from the National Weather Service, parents and students had to work their way through 3 to 4 inches of snow this morning as Acton Public Schools opted not to use a snow day today. The Acton Police Department reported three accidents as of 9 a.m., none involving school buses. The winter weather advisory is in effect until 7 p.m. with total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches expected. Do you think Acton schools should have used a snow day today? Tell us in the comments section below.

I agree with Karen Pierce. I also feel that if you feel it unsafe for your children to go to school until the roads are clearer, then you have the right and responsibility as a parent, to keep them safe and at home, until you can get them there - even if that means they miss a day of school.   more ›

Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Area

Some freezing rain expected.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the area, effective until 11 a.m. The main hazard this morning is freezing rain, which may accumulate by a trace. The NWS says the light amount of freezing rain will be enough to make driving conditions dangerous, as well as walking, on any untreated surfaces. Wind is expected to come from the north at about 5 mph with temperatures in the low 30s. A winter weather advisory is issued when snow and/or ice is expected to develop in the affected areas.
