ReplyThe Happy Chocolatier is hosting Story Time on Tuesdays at 2:00 p.m. during the summer! Ideal for children ages 2-6, though older and younger siblings are always welcome. We’ll read fun stories about chocolate, ice cream and more! And as always, we’ll have samples of our signature chocolates, Cubze.
Questions? Call us at 978-429-8485. This is a free event and we’re located at the Nagog Park Mall across from the Nagog Reservoir on Rt 2A in Acton. Cool and comfy inside, too! -

ReplyThanks for publicizing this, Maureen and Patrick. My son, who is in kindergarten, came home very upset that some had "painted things on the play structure that shouldn't be there" - not knowing the word "graffiti." It's sad that whoever is doing this has so little respect for the community that they get their kicks out of destroying this property intended for local children.

ReplyI, too, always left my basket out the night before and the bunny filled it up overnight! And now, we do the same for our boys.

ReplyIMHO, I think it's a bit of both. I have a 10-yr old who fits the description of Sarah (and me) as a child. Though he's a very physical and energetic boy who loves to play outdoors as much as is humanly possible, he regularly gets lost in his books - and I love that. He, too, ignores my pleas to wash hands for dinner or answer any questions I may pose to him while he's engrossed in his latest novel. He's been like this since he was a baby - I could set a tall stack of books in his crib and he'd be happy for hours, literally.
His younger 6-yr old brother isn't yet reading on his own, but he likes books and "reading" as well. There was a time, though, when I thought he'd never want to read. As a toddler he couldn't sit still long enough to finish a full board book. We tried and tried. Now, though, he spends time looking at books and trying to read. He even gets out Hardy Boys books (which he most definitely cannot read), looks through the pages, finds his "word wall" words and tells me he's read the whole book - all because he's trying to be like his brother who he worships. So in his case, it's the nurture from us and from his brother setting the standard that seems to inspire him to spend time with books.
Two different approaches, but maybe the same outcome. I'll give you an update in 4 years.

A thought to add: ACS offers FLEXIBILTY! Which for me and many other parents is key. With the type of work I do, typical preschool schedules that require children to attend on particular days or at set times, didn't work for me. With ACS, we got the flexibility of choosing the days that worked best for us and the times (just preschool and optional extended hours) that we needed.

ReplyActon Children's School is a wonderful preschool with great teachers and a terrific program! My son loved it and I wished I'd had the opportunity to send my older son. The transitional kindergarten program with Diane is superb!

Willow Books is a great spot for book browsing and purchasing. And they're very helpful with suggestions, particularly for children.
