Being *just* a parent and not part of the PTO, I'm afraid I don't have the answers to these questions Brad.

Good question Mary. Hemenway's PTO is funding this 2-week trial, I believe which involves a couple of adults watching the kids outside in the parking lot and inside the school lobby for those 20 minutes.

I know what you mean Brian. Fingers crossed the trial is a success and they decide to continue it.

That's interesting Karen. I know that one of Natick's elementary school also has an active kids program before school. Hemenway does have an official pre-school program run by the YMCA that starts as early as 7am, I think. But, for me, just that 20 min head-start in the morning thanks to an earlier drop-off program, will be fabulous!

ReplyGood point. The notification we got from the school talked about how the school and neighborhood was built in the 50s (?) and never intended for such volume of traffic in a compressed window of time.

So true Brian, my kids are always intrigued by National Geographic stuff. However, if they are left in charge of the remote, they all to quickly find something less wholesome!

ReplyThat's a great approach; we do the same thing for earning screen time on iPad or laptop.

You know this would all be moot (or "moo" as Joey in Friends would say) if the elementary schools flipped schedules with the high school and started their days at 7ish. After all, our elementary-aged kids are usually up bright and early and raring to go. Sometimes they've been up for three hours already before school starts!
